Give a little bit....

Living and working in a community lends a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the well being of that community.  Nothing illustrates your support more than giving back in some way.
Research the non-profit and charitable organizations in your area and find some time to help out.  There are so many causes out there that you may not know about and they can all use your help.  Join a fund-raising committee or volunteer at an event. Not sure how to go about choosing an organization to be a part of?  Check out this List of Connecticut Non-Profits posted on ThisIsCT.net

A more comprehensive list resides at VolunteerMatch.org, offering a variety of online services to support a community of nonprofit, volunteer and business leaders committed to civic engagement.
Even registering for a single event can help. Last summer a group of us participated in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day. We walked 60 miles over 3 days and each of raised $2,300.00 for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research.
Help can come in many ways.  Recently, a non-profit client needed help identifying a vacant downtown location that could be utilized for an overflow shelter during the winter months. I volunteered my services to reach out through my real estate networks and resources to come up with some options. No matter what sector or industry you work in, there are many ways you can help your community. You could donate your services for a particular project or event. You could donate items for a raffle. You could host a fund raising event.  You could simply toss your loose change into to the boot of a firefighter.  It all helps!
Some of my favorite organizations that I enjoy being a part of are Best Buddies, The American Lung Association, Autism Speaks and Kiwanis.
I'd love to hear about your favorite ways to give back.  Don't hesitate to send me your thoughts!

Be well,
Rhonda
